Plastic Surgery on TV - Pop Culture and Cosmetic Surgery


Society has long had a fascination with plastic surgery. This fascination has lead to a number of plastic surgery TV shows in both the reality and fictional genres. From fictional TV plastic surgeons to real life plastic surgeons with their own TV show, the following are some of the most popular plastic surgery TV shows.

Most people would agree that the first two plastic surgery TV shows that had were largely popular were The Swan and Extreme Makeover. The Swan was a competition based show in which the contestants were self-professed ugly ducklings. The contestants received numerous plastic surgery procedures to fix their flaws and once healed competed in a beauty pageant. Extreme Makeover was similar to The Swan in that it too helped self-professed ugly ducklings. However, Extreme Makeover had no competitive element. It just gave the participants the surgery they wanted and held a reveal of their new look to family and friends.

There are also a number of reality-based plastic surgery TV shows. One such show is Dr. 90210. This show follows a number of real life TV plastic surgeons through their daily life both in and out of the office. It follows some of the most innovative and popular plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills. There are a few other reality-based plastic surgery TV shows. Some of these other shows would include I Want a Famous Face, Miami Slice, and Plastic Surgery Before and After.

One popular show about fictional TV plastic surgeons is the FX drama called Nip Tuck. Nip Tuck is an hour-long drama that follows a practice of plastic surgeons in and out of the operating room. One interesting fact about this TV plastic surgery show is that it highlights real life cases in the episodes. In fact, all the surgical scenarios are based on famous plastic surgery incidents.
